In the Museum of New Mexico Catalogue of Permanent Collection (1932), this painting is listed as being a gift of the artist. It was located in the auditorium which was probably why it wasn't assigned an accession number.
The original painting by Juan Bautista Martínez del Mazo was excuted in 1645 and completed in 1646. This painting is in the Collection of the Mueso del Prado in Madrid, Spain.
The handwritten label found on the central stretcher bar has an illegible stamp or seal over the inscription. The stamp/seal is in blue ink and was a light impression leading to its illegibility. This stamp/seal appears to be an export marking from Spain or elsewhere in Europe indicating approval for the work to ship back to the States upon the Artist's departure from Europe. Additional research is needed on the marking.
