Vendor acquired from the estate of Ruth Bibb Maher in early 2000. Ruth Bibb Maher was a former Harvey Girl. She purchased the bedroom set when the Alvarado Hotel in Albuquerque closed and was demolished in 1970. The bedroom set was commissioned by the hotel for its bridal suite. The headboard was patterned on the pediment of the hotel building.
The Alvarado Hotel was one of a chain of Harvey House Hotels built by Fred Harvey along the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway route. It opened in 1902 in downtown Albuquerque and was demolished in 1970. The Harvey Girls were waitresses in the hotel restaurant.
