eMuseum Notes
During summers at Martha’s Vineyard and Gloucester, Mass., in 1943-44, Siskind started making photographs that were increasingly abstract and symbolic, such as this image. The shift in his work coincided with his growing friendships with the Abstract Expressionist artists of the New York School and especially those associated with the Charles Egan Gallery, where he also exhibited.
