eMuseum Notes
Artist Patty Carroll was traditionally trained in documentary photography, her early work often depicting popular culture and night life scenes. Recently, however, she has migrated towards working in the studio to create photographic scenes that expose, critique, and poke fun at the role of women in an idealized home. In Flowery, the identity of the woman is thoroughly camouflaged by drapes. Her efforts at creating the perfect home, while adding to its comfort and beauty, have perhaps led to the loss or sublimation of self.
