eMuseum Notes
For three decades, Judith Golden’s mixed-media photographs have blended earthly concerns with the realms of spirit and fantasy to address issues of gender, sexuality, and individualism. Golden is best known for her work in hand-coloring, assemblage, image appropriation, and other alternative approaches that undercut photography’s inherent realism to suggest the presence of symbolism and myth. Golden’s series Elusive Realities depicts the twenty-two major Arcana cards of the ancient Tarot. This colorful image of renewal was incorporated into the series as Rebirth, one of the allegorical portraits representing archetypes of the collective unconscious.
