DescriptionYoung woman in pink silky top in an interior, leaning over table with right arm outstretched along table, holding onto a triangular glass with drink and olives in it. Her head is resting on her right arm and she is looking at the viewer. Her bare legs are folded under her on a red armchair. On her left arm is a tattoo and scars. Above her is a window and curtains; view outside of sky.
eMuseum Notes
Diener provides a youthful perspective on vulnerability, identity, and belonging in these evocative photographs from early in her career. Her body of work Familiar Moments focuses on her quest for self and a sense of home, stemming from her dual citizenship in Germany and America. In these staged portraits, the artist often appears with strangers in public or in their homes, creating a dubious family album of her feelings, fantasies, and stereotyped views of family in settings that are foreign, yet still soothing and intimate.
