Robert Harrison’s artwork is characteristically about architectural spaces. He creates large-scale, site-specific architectural installations as well as a series of smaller houses, each with its own particular cultural symbolism. In the case of Dragon House, the cultural connotations are Chinese. Harrison gathered decals to fired onto the terra cotta tile surfaces during various trips to China. “The ‘collage' of decals,” he writes, “is focused on the dragon imagery so prevalent in the Chinese lexicon. The black serpentine china paint line of 'energy' I brushed on the surface literally ties the four sides of the house together.”
