eMuseum Notes
Harris Deller is a well-known American ceramist whose work from the suppressed volume series, including this work, converses will with the reductive compositions of American minimalism. His work explores the formal elements of volume, line, and space. The fractured concentric circles incised onto the vessel resemble tree rings, fingerprints, or a target. He has compared his incising to music, the lines being the melody and the spaces between the pauses of a musical composition.
