Text Entries
Once someone’s home, this abandoned house in Eddy County, New Mexico looks like it is under siege by a tangle of black hoses. The area is rich in oil and natural gas and if you look carefully, you can see a pump jack in the distance to the right of the building. The hoses transport the raw material to a refinery, where it can be processed into fuel for consumers. By emphasizing the empty house and the many hoses, the artist seems to ask what price we are willing to pay, in terms of our landscape and culture, to use this natural resource.
