A self-described “lone wolf,” Jim Dine has worked in various styles and mediums over his long career. Originally associated with Happenings, he has also become thought of as a Pop artist due to the fact that he has often returned to the representation of commonplace objects such as a robe, a heart, Pinocchio, a robe, or tools. In Dine in Black Grease, the artist returns to another subject: himself, a subject always at hand. Dine created this print as a Tamarind Institute Collector’s Club print in 2000.
