A self-described “lone wolf,” Jim Dine has worked in various styles and mediums over his long career. Originally associated with Happenings, he has also become thought of as a Pop artist due to the fact that he has often returned to the representation of commonplace objects such as a robe, a heart, Pinocchio, a robe, or tools. In Dine in Black Grease, the artist returns to another subject: himself, a subject always at hand. Dine created this print as a Tamarind Institute Collector’s Club print in 2000.
The wooden filet on the top interior section of the frame had come loose at some point and was bowing out over the top of the mat. The frame was opened on 1/22/15 and inspected for repair. All four of the original wooden filets were removed and replaced with Cintra filets. The lithograph was then re-framed in the original frame with the new filets.
