Description
As a self-portrait, this work by Erika Wanenmacher situates the artist in a dialogue about the environment. The cut-out forms of leaves on the figure’s skin emphasizes this point, thus the title of the work. Significantly, as a marionette-like figure, this piece has resonance with the museum’s large collection of Gustave Baumann marionettes and therefore has great potential for exploring the puppet as a commentary on the individual being controlled by forces beyond our control.
