eMuseum Notes
The artist began this series of twelve images as she was beginning to think about motherhood, became pregnant, and then gave birth to a daughter. The moon, with its cycle of phases, has long been associated with women and fertility. Here it marks the passage of months, a period of tremendous expectancy, in which life takes form and a child develops, unseen.  The eerie nighttime landscape also seems to represent the unknown – the mystery of life, the face of the child waiting to be born, and the future that lies ahead.
