Jacques Lartigue received his first camera at age seven or eight and began recording the life and adventures of a boy born into an affluent family in France. He loved sports, fast cars, and airplanes and also photographed his family. This hilarious portrait of his older brother Maurice (known as Zissou) was made when Lartigue was twelve years old. As a adult, Lartigue made his living as a painter and it wasn’t until the 1960s that he became known for his photographs.
The photograph was made in France and is of the artist’s elder brother Maurice, known as Zissou.
