The artist lists the medium for this print as “Hand-coated albumen print, selenium toned.” The photograph was made in New Mexico.
Using the simple image of a tree, the artist creates a delicate, layered composition that appears not entirely of this world. Perhaps responding to current environmental threats to our physical world and the many challenges of contemporary life, Schlesinger constructs a meditation on the concept of Utopia, an idyllic but necessarily imaginary place.
