DescriptionAbstracted female figure in yellows and dark purpleseMuseum Notes
Manuel Neri is a northern California-based artist known for his figurative sculptures that are, like this drawing, life-size.
Neri, who studied under painters Richard Diebenkorn, Elmer Bishoff and Frank Lobdell, takes a painterly approach to figurative sculpture by marking his figures with paint and scratches. Neri uses areas of color in a similar way in Ter Forme Series I. Gesture, pose, and body language, combined with surface treatment, express emotional states in both his sculptures and his drawings.
