Historical text from the accompanying booklet reads as: Lucrecia Toriz, la heroína de los obreros textiles veracruzanos, encabezó a sus compañeros en la famosa huelga de Río Blanco, la cual fue disuelta por las tropas mercenarias de Rosalino Martínez, mediante el uso de las armas. Miles de trabajadores cayeron muertos y después de los sangrientos acontecimientos que indignaron a todo el país, se informó al Dictador Díaz que la “calma se había restablecido completamente”. Translation: Lucrecia Toriz, the heroine of the Veracruz textile workers, lead her coworkers in the famed strike of Río Blanco, which was ultimately dissolved through armed force by Rosalino Martinez' mercenary troops. After thousands of workers were killed in the bloody events, which infuriated the entire country, the Dictator Porfirio Díaz was informed that “peace had been completely restored.” Translated by Aída Wester, Intern 2017.
