México, los científicos y favoritos del régimen quisieron aparentar ante los
extranjeros visitantes un entrañable amor por los indígenas. Por las calles capitalinas se organizaron
desfiles de danzantes y de carros alegóricos, mientras en los campos el
indígena se moría de hambre.

Translation: During the lavish festivities of the first Centennial of the Independence of Mexico, the self-proclaimed Científicos (Scientificists) and others favored by the regime pretended to have a deep fondness for the natives while in the company of foreign visitors.
