Text EntriesThe photograph arrived to the Museum matted. Due to the work being mounted to the mat board with acidic tape corners, it was decided to remove it from its original mat. The verso of the mat included inscription information on it. Before the mat was disposed of, the inscription information was removed and is now housed in the accession file.
Known
for his photographs of people and particularly those of the American Southwest,
photographer Cavalliere Ketchum earned his MFA degree at the
University of New Mexico alongside fellow student Anne Noggle. Ketchum had
a particular interest in the Hispanic
culture of the American Southwest. The two artists showed together in an
exhibition at the Friends of Photography Gallery in Carmel, California, in
1971, the year after he accepted a teaching position at the University of
Wisconsin in Madison. Noggle made this portrait while visiting her friend in
Wisconsin.
This
photograph was taken in Wisonsin where the artist was visiting Ketchum in 1979.
