Text Entries
In this self-portrait, taken around the time of her mother’s death, Noggle contemplates her own mortality. Though her eyes are downcast, she seems to be smiling, perhaps contemplating a life well lived.
In a conversation with Katherine Ware, the artist’s niece Dale Pease noted that the veil Noggle is wearing in this photograph belonged to the artist’s mother Agnes.


In a conversation with Katherine Ware, Noggle’s friend and studio assistant Jim Holbrook said that this picture was made after Noggle’s girlfriend Nancy Barry had left her and Noggle was depressed by the breakup.
