A line of women proceed from white-skirted girlhood to black-robed old age. This understated masterpiece reads as an epiphany: our lives flower and pass. Baumann makes this scene monumental by setting it beneath a tree in full blossom. The silver sky envelops this simple, beautiful truth like a halo.
