The photograph was made with a Kodak Brownie camera.
Born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Christenberry often visited family in rural Hale County, a place that has provided the primary inspiration for his work in painting, sculpture, and photography. Here he photographs the inventive repurposing of materials, a bathtub that has been brought outdoors to serve as a watering trough for animals. Though some might find it an incongruous sight, Christenberry presents the scene in an accepting, matter-of-fact way.
