DescriptionThis print depicts a New Mexico Santo Domingo Pueblo scene, of indigenous people gathered on Christmas Day, for a traditional ceremonial Winter Solstice dance. The foreground and middle ground are crowded with figures in black and grey shirts with their backs turned the viewer. The is a diagonal column of dancers proceeding from the right corner into the background. On the left a large piece of adobe architecture is situated indeed shadow, with figures on top. On the right and into the center background and there is an adobe structure with a portal full of onlookers. In the center background a large kiva in is bright light with a ladder protruding from the top.eMuseum Notes
