Text Entries

Text reads as:

Desire is not enough

Your desire and will

Will not sway

The space and speed

Of increased returns

The snarl of change

He really didn’t know

The phenomenon of propositions

Or the meanderings

Of animals

James Drake works across media creating drawings, videos, sculpture, photography, and installations. Boundaries, both political and metaphorical, are often an underling tension in his art. His meticulously crafted works reference history, art history, and literature. Verbal and nonverbal communication, and use of poetry are recurring themes in his work.

The Whispers portfolio include seven prints that pair poetry and drawn images. The evocative text and drawings plays off language and sound to evoke the complexity of and the difficulty in comprehending human existence through faith or logic.

Drake has created many works in collaboration with master printers and print workshops. This portfolio is one of many projects he has created with Jack Lemon and Steven Campbell of Landfall Press in Santa Fe.
