eMuseum Notes

Originally noted for his photographs of the American South, William Eggleston creates beautiful, formal images of ordinary people and things within the environment of everyday life. The common subject matter is complimented by sophisticated interaction of space, color, and line within the composition.

Eggleston’s 1976 one-person exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art, in New York, was the first for a photographer working in color. The photographs were controversial for the time and derided as “snapshots,” due to their commonplace subject matter and color printing.
