eMuseum Notes
Though Lee was born in Korea, she has frequently photographed the desert landscapes of the United States, finding resonance in their combination of strong form and empty space. Rather than simply capturing an image, Lee seeks to convey her experiences. To create a unique, visceral viewing experience, Lee brushes photo emulsion onto handmade mulberry paper, creating an active and textured surface. She often uses a panoramic camera , resulting in a long horizontal or vertical image that is reminiscent of Asian scroll paintings.
