Montoya created this print during her artist residency with The Serie Project, a non-profit founded in 1993 by Austin artist Sam Coronado that is dedicated to the art of hand-pulled serigraphs. Another institutional goal is to increase multi-racial participation in the art work and particularly to support Latinx artists. Montoya was in residence there in 2007 and 2008 and worked with a master printer to make several print pieces.

From Delilah Montoya’s website (2018):

In her print Los Dos Corazones, Montoya pays homage to her close friend, renowned sculptor Luis Jiménez, who passed away in 2006.  In the locket, Montoya uses a photograph of Jiménez that she took in 2005 when they were hiking near his ranch in New Mexico. The other images in the print are mementos that Montoya and Jiménez shared in real life, such as the rose petals whose beauty they both observed once outside her home, and the locket and charms that were gifts from Jiménez to Montoya.  "Luis was a very warm, caring individual, and I hope people can get this sense of him when looking at this print," she says.

In this print, the artist pays homage to her dear friend Luis Jimenez, an artist who passed away in 2006. Jimenez appears in a photograph in the locket, taken by Montoya the previous year when they were hiking near his ranch in New Mexico. Scattered around him are petals from roses in Montoya’s garden they had ejoyed together and a selection of small tokens and charms he had given her. “Luis was a very warm, caring individual,” Montoya writes, “and I hope people can get this sense of him when looking at this print.”
