Computer Drawings:

In an effort to establish consistency for the titles of Frederick Hammersley’s computer drawings, the Frederick Hammersley Foundation provides the following guidelines based on his records and practice:

Hammersley produced a progressive series of 72 computer drawings he called a “complete set”, consisting of individually titled and numbered works (1-72). Hammersley also produced what he called “dupes”, “variations” and "incomplete sets” of computer drawings.

To the best of the Foundation’s knowledge, “dupes” (or duplicates) are print‐outs of computer drawings from the "complete set” of 72.  There is a range in the quantity of these print‐outs, they tend to vary slightly, and are generally not editions.

To the best of the Foundation’s knowledge, "variations" are computer drawings related in composition or title to the “complete set” of 72 and only one of each “variation” was printed.

To the best of the Foundation’s knowledge, "incomplete sets” consists of a varying number of computer drawings.

Format:

·         All caps In italics are used for the title. This is based on how they were printed on the drawings.

·         The number of each work follows the title preceded by a comma but is NOT italicized since it is not part of the title.

·         SCALLOP POTATOES, #50

·         The date may follow the same format as paintings and drawings.

·         1969 (February 20)

Examples (please note these examples show the preferred format for each element of the captions, e.g., the title and medium; the arrangement of elements may vary, e.g., the date may appear on the same line as the title):
