E. Boyd, who was an early scholar of Spanish Colonial Art in New Mexico, was commissioned during the new deal period to make painting recordings specific to Spanish colonial subject matter, including Santos, Bultos and altar pieces that were compiled into a large catalogue. A series of woodblock prints featuring only the black outlines were made.  They were distributed to various craftsmen in northern New Mexico to be hand painted resulting in a certain level of inconsistency from one piece to another.
Artwork was unframed for inspection after arrival to the museum and it was discovered that glass glazing was used for the framing. The glass glazing was removed and replaced with Plexiglas prior to exhibition in 2018. The Plexiglas remains as the current glazing.
