DescriptionOil on canvas painting of Frijoles Canyon. Multicolored canyon face with flat grassy earth in the foreground. Green overgrowth is atop each canyon layer. The vantage point is close up, with only a small triangle of blue sky in the top left corner as the canyon fills the canvas.
eMuseum Notes
Bakos painted Rito de los Frijoles (one of his earliest paintings of the area) around 1921-22 based on his impressions gathered while he and fellow Buffalo native, Walter Mruk, worked at Rito for the U.S. Forest Service for $2.00 a day during 1920-21. – Stan Cuba.
