eMuseum Notes
Jen Pack’s stitched and stretched construction follow a lineage of feminist artist working with  textiles but also the minimal shaped forms and subtle geometry of  Frederick Hammersley and early Frank Stella.  Her use of strips of fabric also connects the work to the quilters of Gees Bend and Korean pojagi patchwork. The artist has discussed her work as existing in the seam,  the seam being a sewn line that joins two opposites together. The works investigate both formal (solid/transparent, delicate/aggressive) and biographical (loud/quiet, male/ female) binaries for the artist. It also occupies conflicting spaces including the intersection of sculpture and painting.
