The subject of this photograph is easily recognizable as trees but he uses them to create an abstract composition, focusing on the overall patterning of leaves across the surface of the picture and the play of light and dark as well as positive and negative space. Beyond these immediate visual pleasures, the artist also evokes the familiar, visceral experience of looking up into a canopy of leaves that rustle in the breeze and shimmer in the light.
