Susan Davidoff draws inspiration from nature walks, during which she collects, sketches, and photographs plant life. She attempts to translate the perceived energy of plants into works such as Regiones Botanicas de la Tierra: Antilles No. 1. In this series, Davidoff explores the flora of the Antilles, an archipelago in the Caribbean Sea that includes Cuba, Haiti, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, and Puerto Rico. She combines drawings of native plants with botanical illustrations, a world map, and rubbings of earth that evoke a sense of place.
