DescriptionRed, blue and purple rotating panels within a rectangular bronze painted frame which rest within a white base. The base holds the motor, wiring and mechanical elements which turn the colored panels.eMuseum Notes
As one of the leading machine artists of the American post-World War II war period, Charles Mattox favored artistic experimentation. In this untitled machine, Mattox placed six cruciform panels in a vertical frame. Each panel has a different color painted on each of its four sides: blue, green, red, and violet. An unseen motor rotates each of the panels independently and creates a different arrangement of colors as time passes.
