eMuseum Notes

Lilly Fenichel was experimental in her approach to materials and synthesized many salient aspects of late twentieth century abstraction in her work. In the 1980s Fenichel began to work with wood and fiberglass, and this experimentation is echoed in her paintings through the use of unconventional materials and an interest in flatness and surface. In Kohl, oil paint is poured into the polypropylene surface, creating smooth flat organic shapes, with texture around the edges caused by the natural movement and drying of the oil medium.
