In a conversation with curator Katherine Ware on 6/10/2016, Noggle's longtime friend and studio assistant Jim Holbrook identified the subjects as Nancy Barry, who was Noggle's girlfriend at the time, and himself. The photograph was taken in the bathroom of Noggle and Barry's apartment at 4201 Mesa Grande in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The image resulted from Noggle dyeing the two subject’s hair because she was bored. Jim mentioned that he had his shirt off because they had just dyed and blow-dried his hair.
