Until recently it was thought that Baumann used gouache for his studies on brown paper, but in his writing we learned that he referred to the paint as tempera.
The painting is affixed to an unknown type of secondary support. This secondary support has the weight of card stock or very thin cardboard. It does not appear to be archival.
