Three Eggs in a Pink Dish was likely painted from the apartment on the 30th floor of the Shelton Hotel that Georgia O’Keeffe and Alfred Stieglitz moved into in November 1928. The pink dish would be a recurring motif for O’Keeffe and appeared in a number of still lifes around this time. The arrangement of dish, eggs, and drapery allowed O’Keeffe to explore sleek and simple forms and nuances of color within a limited palette of pink, blue, and gray. Three Eggs in a Pink Dish employs many of the same aesthetic tendencies as her paintings of the skyscrapers of New York City. In her depictions of the city’s modern architecture, O’Keeffe had adopted the trappings of Precisionism, with its preference for streamlined forms and smooth surfaces.
