DescriptionThe figure of a man in a dark suit in art gallery is looking at an image of a stone statue of a seated figure on the left wall. The figure's head appears to be made from dark bubbles that are curving upward and flying away from his body. Surrounding the image of the ancient stone statue and projecting off of the wall is a pyramid. On the wall behind the figure is a large image of human-like facial elements, including eyes and noses. A shadow of a quack mask is visible on the floor in front of the figure.

From an email exchange with the artist (hardcopy in accession file): He confirmed the date of the print is 1983. It is a 'split-toned' gelatin silver print, with additional toning added on the right edge through selective redevelopment. The print was made from a 35mm black and white negative that already contained all the marks that the museum assumed were added by pen. They were not, instead they were literally scratched onto the negative with pins, blades and other diabolical instruments. Aside from the toning, all the "manipulation was done on the negative before it was printed". This process dates from the 19th century and is called 'cliché-verre'. Therefore the medium is "split-toned gelatin silver print, from negative with applied 'cliché-verre'".
