Born
in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Christenberry often visited family in rural Hale
County, a place that has provided the primary inspiration for his work in
painting, sculpture, and photography. Particularly drawn to the region’s folk
architecture, Christenberry often photographed the same site over the course of
several decades. This early view of a modest building is part of a series of
photographs that show the structure in decay over the years until it is
eventually covered in vegetation.
