From the series "Sagrado Corazon/Sacred Heart," made primarily in Montoya's studio at the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, NM. Mike Ippoitis and Robbi Herrera were young aerosol artist who created the background mural seen in the image. The series explored the contemporary significance of the Sacred Heart in Montoya's community in Albuquerque. She considers the works collaboration between, herself, the painters, and the portrait subjects (who brought objects of personal significance with them to be photographed).
