BiographyFrederick Hammersley was trained in traditional painting and drawing at the Chouinard Art Institute and Jepson Art Institute in Los Angeles, California, and after his discharge from the Army in 1945, at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Known primarily for his hard-edged geometric abstractions, the artist came to New Mexico to teach at the University of New Mexico in 1968. Prior to the move his artistic production had diminished but inspiration and productivity returned as he settled into his new home, Albuquerque, New Mexico. In 1971 Hammersley resigned from the University to dedicate himself full time to painting. (Scully, 2017).
