BiographyKaren Truax (American, b. 1946) was born in Vermillion, South Dakota. She earned a BFA degree from Arizona State University in 1974 and an MA degree from the University of New Mexico in 1975. Truax taught photography at the University of New Mexico and was friends with Noggle, Betty Hahn, and others in the photography community. Noggle included some of her hand-colored photographs in the 1975 traveling exhibition and book “Women of Photography: An Historical Survey.” Truax later taught at the University of California, Los Angeles were she was part of an active and experimental community of artists including Robert Heinecken.
