BiographyIn 1971, de Bretteville was a co-founder of the Los Angeles based Women’s Building and its Women Graphic Center. In 1990, when she received tenure at the Yale University School of Art, she was the first woman to do so, and eventually became the director of their graduate program in graphic design. Her graphic designs reflect feminist principles by encouraging participation, expressing the need for change and giving voice to those sometimes marginalized in the larger community.
