Etienne Leperlier

French, 1952 - 2014
BiographyLeperlier’s glass works were created using a technique knowns as pate de Verre a kilncasting method that literally means "paste of glass" – which he learned the technique from his brother Antoine in the studio of his grandfather, legendary pate de Verre artist François Décorchemont (1881-1971). This family heritage strongly influenced his work and in 1980 Etienne made the decision to dedicate himself primarily to this work – developing a process that is a synthesis of different artistic disciplines such as bronze, lost wax, ceramics and glass. Leperlier’s works take their cue from architecture, the ideas of surrealism, and decorative arts, and are distinguished by the extraordinary coloring he achieved through the pate de Verre process.
