Marc Quinn

British, born 1964
BiographyWe do not have any additional works by this artist in our collection. Marc Quinn was one of the YBA artists who came to fame in the late 1980s. He has exhibited extensively including the 2003 Venice Biennale, Tate London, and the Fondazione Prada in Milan. Nature, the body, and genetics are all subjects for Marc Quinn’s artwork. Reproduction, decay and mutation are subtext to much of his work. This sculpture is one of a series of Morphology works the artist created in silvered glass. His face is impressed upon the largest object in the constellation of eight object. The sperm like shapes that flow from the two larger objects suggest the melting down of a form into pools of reflective glass while also hinting at mutation and procreation. Six of the forms are small and sperm/elongated puddle shaped. The two larger objects suggest other body parts including a human face, penis, and heart muscle. Surreal materials and subject matter are emblematic of this artist work and are aspects of this sculpture.
