Craig Varjabedian was born in Windsor, Ontario, Canada in 1957 and earned his BFA degree from the University of Michigan in 1979, followed by his MFA degree from the Rochester Institute of Technology in 1989. After a workshop with Ansel Adams in Carmel, California, he and a friend drove through Santa Fe on their way back to Michigan and he has been based in New Mexico since graduate school Varjabedian is a well-known photographer in the western landscape tradition and has published more than fourteen books of his work, on topics including Ghost Ranch, Penitente moradas, White Sands National Monument, and New Mexico’s Catholic traditions. He has exhibited his work throughout the United States and has photographs in the collections of numerous public and private collections. Varjabedian has taught at Santa Fe Community College and founded Eloquent Light Photography Workshops in 1986.
