Cecil Howard

American, born 1937
BiographyHoward was born January 25, 1937 in Wichita, Kansas. He earned a BS at Kansas State Teachers College (now Emporia State University) and an MFA at Wichita State University. Howard joined the faculty at Western New Mexico University in 1963, where he initially taught ceramics and sculpture. He also served as the Director of the Francis McCray Gallery. He retired in 1994 after 31 years in the Department of Expressive Arts, having been chair for several years. He is a recipient of the New Mexico Governor’s Award for Excellence in the Arts in 1999 and served on the Capitol Arts Foundation Board of Directors for many years.
