Stuart ArendsAmerican, born 1950

Stuart Arends was born in Waterloo, Iowa, in 1950. He studied art at the Western State College in Gunnison, Colorado, the Banff School of Fine Arts in Banff, Alberta, and at Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles. Arends first came to New Mexico in 1983 for one year as a guest of the Roswell Artist in Residence (RAIR) program. In 1986 Donald Anderson, the RAIR founder, asked Arends to return to Roswell as the director of the program from 1986 – 1992. Today he lives in southern New Mexico. His work is included in many collections, including the Corcoran Gallery of Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Panza Collection, the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, the Lannan Foundation, Albuquerque Museum of Art, and the University of New Mexico Art Museum, among many others.
