Andrew DasburgAmerican, born France, 1887 - 1979

Before coming to the Southwest, Andrew Dasburg’s interest in avant-garde art brought him from New York to Paris. There he was introduced to the landscapes of Cézanne, and Picasso’s Cubist geometric abstractions, which he later applied to the distinctive landscape and adobe architecture in New Mexico. The land and geometric forms of traditional New Mexican buildings and towns complemented the cubist abstractions that Dasburg was working with back in New York. (Waguespack, 2018).
